For April, National Autism Awareness Month (NAAM) and ASM is proud to Celebrate Differences by providing educational resources, autism facts and statistics, and providing opportunity for community engagement. Autism is a spectrum disorder, which means no two people with autism are affected the same way. With support, people with autism can live full lives and make meaningful contributions to society. As an affiliate of the Autism Society, the Autism Society of Maine is here for families, individuals and the community for guidance and education about autism. Call ASM: 1-800-273-5200.
Autism is a developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. It is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain, and occurs in approximately one out of every 54 births. Autism is four times more prevalent in boys than girls and knows no racial, ethnic or social boundaries.
What can you do to bring Autism Awareness to your community?
Host an event or join with others and attend an event like the Walk for Autism, create a bulletin board, wear an autism awareness ribbon, make a donation to ASM, join our Facebook group, become a member of ASM, join a support group, share the autism awareness ribbon or information on social media, read a book about autism, purchase an autism awareness item in the ASM store to wear or share, learn more about autism and much more

ASM is offering an opportunity to fundraise in a fun way while promoting Autism Awareness!
Schools, businesses or agencies can offer to sell puzzle piece paper hearts for $1 each to students, customers or clients. Names can tbe added on the heart and displayed in a window or on a wall. This is a great way for you and the participant to support the Autism Society of Maine. ASM would supply you with the hearts and you would provide a check at the end of the campaign for the total amount of hearts sold. See more information here!

ASM is offering an exciting learning experience that can help students better understand their peers with autism (2nd grade - 8th grade.)
ASM can come to your school, and present to your class the “Kit for Kids” program developed by "Organization for Autism Research." Through a story, children learn that students with autism may think differently or need some accommodations, but all students are of equal worth.

Developed with input from parents, people who serve the autism community, and people with autism, "See Amazing in All Children" offers families ways to manage common challenges, to simplify everyday activities, and to grow connections and support from family, friends, and community.
