ASM Fall Conference Follow-Ups!

Autism Society of Maine's Fall Conference held on October 31st was offered to the community at no cost. We hope you were able to come away from this event with helpful information and resources. Please consider making a donation in support of ASM to help provide autism learning opportunities such as this in the future for individuals, families and professionals and community. 

Keynote Presentation: "28 Years of Autism: From Then Till Now" with Dr. Kerry Magro
Presentation focuses on Kerry's education experience growing up and being on the spectrum. Experiences, both good and bad, can help students with disabilities from early childhood to the transition into adulthood. Kerry shared experiences with therapies focused on his early development, how he founded a disability awareness organization and a non-profit for special needs housing, his work on 3 best-selling books and much more!

Break-Out: Transition Services with Cathy Dionne, Executive Director, ASM 
Many families strugglewhen their child is in high school and the thought of them graduating. It seems like yesterday they were in
kindergarten. We will explore secondary education, living on their own, job prospects, and adult services
through Department of Health and Human Services. (There is no video recording for this presentation.)

 

Break-Out: Self-Advocate Town Hall with Kerry Magro
“Don’t just read a book to learn about autism. Learn by getting to know people who have autism.” In this presentation, moderated by autism self-advocate Dr. Kerry Magro, self-advocates and allies discuss issues currently impacting them in the community. Topics that will be addressed at the start will include employment, postsecondary & housing before moving to an open forum for attendees.
