School Autism Awareness Packet

Dear Educator,

As you probably know, April is Autism Awareness Month.  The Autism Society of Maine, (ASM) began the movement which led to celebrating April as National Autism Awareness Month over 25 years ago. This is a time for families, schools, employees and the community to participate in activities that support and educate about autism. During April, we reach out to various agencies, schools and community organizations with packets of information specific to their needs.

School Packets include: activities for students of all ages, bulletin board ideas, resources for teachers and staff, student friendly resources, links to educational videos for children, book recommendations, and more.  All packets have reproducible materials within.

We also do a fundraising campaign called the “Heart Campaign”.  This campaign is simple.  We will send puzzle piece paper hearts to you.  For a donation of $1 or more, students and staff would “purchase” a heart and write their name on it. The individual hearts can then be displayed in a designated area of your school.  The more you can display the better!  All of the money raised from this campaign will go toward supporting our summer camp for children with autism and our Annual Fall Conference.  Both of these programs are free for the public.

If you would like to participate in the “Heart Campaign”, and/or receive a “School Packet” please fill out the form and return to ASM.  All materials will be mailed during the last week of March. Please see the campaign form below and call ASM with any questions you may have: 1-800-273-5200.

Thank you, Autism Society of Maine
